SOME OF THE THINGS HELPING HANDS HAS DONE AT PRASAT CHAR VILLAGE

- Built a large bridge to enable access in and out of the village much easier and safer in the wet season.

- Built a school that now has approximately 300 students.  They learn English, which is an absolute necessity if they want to get a job in Siem Reap when they grow up.  We also teach other remedial classes, such as reading and writing Cambodian.

- Set a number of people up in small businesses.

- Supported a family whose father was sick with, and subsequently died from, tuberculosis. We also helped cover burial and funeral costs for the above family.

- We have built water pumps to enable remote families to have access to clean water.

- We've purchased more than 240 bicycles to enable children to get to school or adults to get to work or market, etc.

- Arranged (and covered expenses) for surgery for a burn victim.

- Arranged medical treatment (and hospitalisation) for a number of other villagers.

- Supplied more than 30 watering cans and other assorted farming tools.

- Supplied a land mine victim with a water pumping machine and generator so that he can water larger areas of his vegetable garden.

- Supplied seeds and tools to more than 18 houses. We have now also set up a seed bank so that all villagers have access to vegetable seeds.

- Supplied materials to make a house waterproof.

- Provided fishing nets.

- Provided emergency food relief.

- Supplied practical goods to a large number of households – tubs for washing, soap, mosquito nets, etc.

- Supplied school books, bags, pens, pencils, school shirts, etc, to many children.

- Provided building materials to enable two families to rebuild their dilapidated houses.

The above two photos show Lee-a before and after the surgery on her arm (which was to rectify problems sustained when she was burnt as a baby).  The biggest change has been in her personality - she is now a happy (and cheeky) little girl.

Delivering watering cans to the village.  Due to its remoteness this can be quite tricky.
